trump-swastika

Regardless of what happens with this election we can take the glass half-full approach and, at the very least, understand how a person like Hitler could be dropped in a petri dish of pure shit and somehow become the missing ingredient to temporarily turn that primordial pool of shit into fool’s gold.

Now we find ourselves in the middle of what the American Dream has become once it’s had long enough to be taken over, cajoled and re-written by the top of the 4th and 5th generation of the 1 percenters that have spent the past four or five generations systematically consolidating their power and wealth at the expense of the bottom half of the country.

What once sounded like the distant beating of what might be warning bells of an impossible to believe dystopian society which Americans had only read about. Things that happened over there somewhere. Never here. Never upon the shores of the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Prison Industrial Nation

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We has a nation have suddenly been forced to face the fact that we have stood by while a few wealthy individuals have turned our country and its citizens into a prison industrial complex. They’ve done such a good job of making sure that they can make money by taking away people’s freedoms, it’s not a promise, it’s a guarantee. Places like New Orleans have signed deals with private deals with private prison companies they they will keep the prison at 96% occupancy and if for some reason occupancy falls below that percentage, the prison will still pay the company the 96% fee no matter how many empty beds there. Well, it’s not really correct to say that the prison would still be paying the company. No, the onus of that falls to the taxpayers.

It’s no coincidence or surprise that the United States, the home of the free and land of the brave, also has, by far, the largest prison population in the world. With a population of just over 318 million people has a prison population of around 2,193,798. That’s 737 people per every 100k that are locked away.

Put that into perspective with China which has the second largest prison population with 1,548,498. However, taking into account China’s total population of 1.357 billion people and you get a mere 118 people per 100k who are in prison. That’s over 6 times less than the U.S.

“the shocking prevalence of contract language between private prison companies and state and local governments that either guarantee prison occupancy rates, (which ItPI calls “lockup quotas”) or force taxpayers to pay for empty beds if the prison population falls due to lower crime rates or other factors.”

The report labels payment for nonexistent prisoners “low-crime taxes.”

“Goddammit honey, they better start sending more of those crazy, dangerous weed smokers to prison. Our low-crime taxes are simply getting out hand!”

In the wealthiest nation on the planet over 75% of its citizens are living, or what could more appropriately be described as barely hanging on, paycheck to paycheck.

“Roughly three-quarters of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck, with little to no emergency savings, according to a survey released by Bankrate.com Monday.” So three out of four Americans are one missed paycheck away from potential disaster.

Fewer than one in four Americans have enough money in their savings account to cover at least six months of expenses, enough to help cushion the blow of a job loss, medical emergency or some other unexpected event, according to the survey of 1,000 adults. Meanwhile, 50% of those surveyed have less than a three-month cushion and 27% had no savings at all.

While everyone else was asked to sacrifice, lose their homes and just “work harder” to help pull America out of the recession funk. The super wealthy were too busy just amassing more wealth.

Rich

Do the math and you’ll discover that the top 7% gained a whopping $5.6 trillion in net worth (assets minus liabilities) while the rest of lost $669 billion. Their wealth went up by 28% while ours went down by 4 percent.

We watched while a hero risked his life and freedom to shed light on illegal and covert activities being perpetuated on the American people by their own government. He provided black and white proof that so many of the things that had, up until now, was considered “tinfoil hat paranoia”.

Now we know that not only was it not paranoia but the spying and trampling of constitutional rights ran far deeper than any of us could have imagined. As our incoming President made a promise to protect whistleblowers we watched as this man gave up everything, including his country,in order to make sure the truth was made known.

“Because even if you’re not doing anything wrong, you’re being watched and recorded. And the storage capability of these systems increases every year consistently by orders of magnitude to where it’s getting to the point where you don’t have to have done anything wrong, you simply have to eventually fall under suspicion from somebody, even by a wrong call. And then they can use the system to go back in time and scrutinize every decision you’ve ever made. Every friend you’ve ever discussed something with. And attack you on that basis, to derive suspicion from an innocent life, and paint anyone in the context of a wrongdoer.”

Just a decade ago the thought of a buffoon like Trump getting into the White House would have been laughable. Now, many of our voters think what the hell, it can’t get much worse than it already is. May as well as elect this clown and see how far down the bowl this whole thing can go.
