Domestic violence of any sort is vile and unacceptable on any level but domestic violence against a child is absolutely despicable. As the tragic news broke yesterday that Adrian Peterson’s 2-year-old son had become a victim of domestic violence that ultimately resulted in his death the news shook fans and non-fans alike.
In a time when fantasy football has become one of America’s favorite pastimes fans often feel an even deeper connection with “their” players or even players they might face every week in their respective leagues. The fans of subreddits r/fantasy football and r/nfl have decided to take this tragedy and turn it into an opportunity to raise money and awareness for domestic violence.
I’m an AP owner this year. I’m also a fantasy enthusiast who hates only hearing about people badgering players about injuries and performance via twitter, etc.
Let’s do something good. What do people think about coordinating a donation to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence? From r/fantasyfootball in AP’s name. Obviously he personally doesn’t need $, but I’m sure NCADV operates mostly through individual giving, and I think it would be a fitting show of respect and sympathy from the fantasy community. I feel terrible for this dude, as I’m sure you all do.
Let’s show some focused gratitude for a man that brings us so much entertainment, and so many thrills. I think it’s only fitting.
Plus October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Thank you to my family, my fans and fans of other teams for their support.
